Skyscapes

These images were shot on 35mm film from 2003 to 2009. First in my hometown then as a ritual while traveling, I would look to the sky for minimal compositions, building my own visual language with clouds, airplanes, telephone lines, and greenery. I began to see these elements as simple gestures: a gentle arc, a blot, a diagonal swish, all suggestive of movement. I shot in Idaho, Chicago, New York, Disneyland, and Japan using my first SLR camera. I’ve created a dialog using pairs, isolation, and anthropomorphism with a subtle playfulness towards the landscape genre of imagery.
